Action Cancer patron Nuala McKeever, left, joins SuperValu Brand Manager Jackie McCloskey, centre, and Big Bus Manager Ciara Boyle to announce that the charity’s Big Bus mobile unit, whose main sponsor is SuperValu and its retail partners, has provided health checks for 2,000 people. Staff onboard the Big Bus carry out a range of health checks as part of a cancer prevention drive, including body mass index, lung capacity, cholesterol, blood pressure and a facial skin scanner analysis. Service users are also coached in improving their lifestyles through smoking cessation, reduced alcohol consumption, increased exercise and a healthier diet. The 18 metre-long Big Bus also houses early detection and support services and 3,500 women have been screened for breast cancer using the latest digital equipment since the unit was launched in 2006.
