Northern Towns Are Ireland’s Best

Broughshane, Co. Antrim has been named Ireland’s Best Kept Small Town and Coleraine, Co. Londonderry has taken the title of the Best Kept Large Urban Centre in Ireland.
Representatives from the towns heard the news at the 2010 Ireland’s Best Kept Town Awards ceremony at Queen’s University Belfast on June 22. The competition brought together the top Northern Ireland towns from last year’s SuperValu Best Kept Awards and their counterparts from the Tidy Towns initiative in the South.
SuperValu has been sponsor of the Ireland’s Best Kept Towns competition since its inception, and also sponsors the North’s Best Kept Awards and Tidy Towns in the South.
Abbeyshrule, Co. Longford was named Ireland’s Best Kept Village. Killarney in Kerry won the Large Town award and then went on to receive the top title of Ireland’s Best Kept Town, won last year by the Northern seaside town of Newcastle, Co. Down.
