Supervalu's £1Million Christmas Gift to Action Cancer

SuperValu has announced an early Christmas present for its charity partner Action Cancer, which entails a £1million funding milestone.
Following on from the success of its eight year partnership in support of the local charity's mobile screening and health promotion services, SuperValu has committed to a further three years of support that will bring its financial contribution to well over £1million
In 2006 SuperValu and its independent retailers helped Action Cancer purchase and launch the Big Bus - a state-of-the-art mobile unit, which is the first of its kind in Europe. Prior to the new unit being launched the original Action Cancer mobile was fully funded by SuperValu and since 2001 SuperValu has donated £800,000 to both services.
With today's announcement that SuperValu and Action Cancer are to work together for a further three years minimum the partnership is set to span at least eleven years and the financial commitment from SuperValu, past and future, will reach more than £1.1million. This will make it not only one of the longest-term corporate-charity link ups, but also one of the largest business donations to a single charity in Northern Ireland.
Since the Big Bus was launched three years ago, with the help of Gloria Hunniford, whose daughter Caron Keating died from breast cancer, 15,000 people have used its innovative onboard breast screening and cancer prevention services at over 600 locations.
SuperValu Marketing Manager Briege McGinty joined Gloria Hunniford to mark the announcement of the £1million milestone and a further 3 years of partnership with Action Cancer’s Big Bus.
