Trolan’s golf classic drives funds for big bus

The now traditional annual Trolan’s SuperValu Golf Classic, in aid of local charity Action Cancer, took place on July 3 at Portstewart Golf Club.
Organised by Patsy and Mary Trolan, owners of the SuperValu store in Ballymoney, along with their family, the event involved over 200 golfers, including a large number of local businesspeople.
Over the past two years the event raised over £55,000 for Action Cancer and this year’s event has raised an additional £23,000.
All the funds from the three Golf Classics have been donated to Action Cancer’s Big Bus screening and health promotion mobile unit. The vehicle, which is the first of its kind in Europe, provides a wide-range of early detection, cancer prevention and support services right on people’s doorsteps as it travels across Northern Ireland. SuperValu and its’ independent retailers are the main sponsors of the Big Bus and have committed over £600,000 to its £1.5 million three-year cost.
As part of the Trolan’s SuperValu fundraising Patsy and his team sold raffle tickets with a brand new Mini Cooper as the main prize. The winner was drawn at the Golf Day.
